| A house is only as strong as it's foundation |
We are experts at quickly building scalable, highly secure software applications using several best-of-breed development languages on the market, including our expertise, Macromedia ColdFusion. These applications offer the ultimate in flexibility, customization and maintainability. We often design, develop, and deliver a far superior application in weeks instead of the months (and sometimes years) that a classic rollout would require. And once in service, changes can often be finished and deployed in hours. How do we dare make such an outlandish claim? It's quite simple actually.
Our methodology works exactly like building a house:
- Get the blueprint nailed
Spend some time documenting and laying-out a end-to-end flow of your processes. Make sure you capture as many of your high and mid-level requirements and business rules that you can. Get input from everyone who has a stake in the new or modified system. We are experts at facilitating this vital discussion and we are experts at structuring and producing the process and requirements documentation that make up the blue print. Every hour you spend in this phase will save 15 hours of VERY EXPENSIVE time in future phases. At the end of this phase you will have a clear picture how your process should flow.
- Build the foundation and framework
With blueprint in hand, we now put together the foundation and framework of the system. You help us choose the database engine to use. We set up a rock solid application framework. We make sure your hardware and network platform and specifications are properly sized and able to handle the load. We design the external interfaces that may be needed to interchange data with your existing infrastructure. We lay out the application flow that meshes perfectly with the process flow. In the end of this phase your house's foundation, plumbing, and frame has been built.
- Build-out room-by-room
The software development team moves in and begins rapidly building the screens, utilities, and application logic that ties everything together. Since the application framework has been created, these "front-ends" are rapidly completed, often using shared code, methods, and shells we have already developed. As this phase progresses, your house quickly becomes a home.
- Inspect and add finishing touches
This phase usually happens in a staggered parallel with the room build-out phase above. Your users will test each section of the application and identify any coding issues or requirements that were missed in the process phase. After each section is "signed-off", it becomes a fixed piece of the finished application. In a sense, each room of your house becomes "livable".
- Write the instructions booklets
No application would be complete without documented instructions and training on how to use and maintain it. We generally build an "end-users guide" showing how the system is to be used, and a "developers guide" detailing how it was built. This ensures end-users are properly trained on how to use the system, and that future enhancements can be added with minimal effort and cost.
- Prepare for future expansion and remodelling
After deployment of the application, you will need to maintain a list of future features to be added. Invariably, an application is never truly completed... it keeps improving and adapting to your changing business needs and user inputs. Fortunately, the house is well built and expandable, and these enhancements can be easily built... by repeating phases 1-5 on a smaller scale.
